MEET THE FOUNDER & EDITORIAL VOICE

Julie
Willis.

Founder. Author. Former government contractor. Very particular about handbags.

Not exactly the traditional road to a luxury handbag brand. Then again, traditional wasn't really the assignment.

01 / THE BACKSTORY

From D.C.
to design.

A career pivot with excellent accessories

Before there were leather swatches, strap prototypes, and a frankly unreasonable number of hardware decisions, Julie Willis worked in government contracting.

Her professional background includes contractor work supporting the U.S. Department of State, Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Army, and Department of Defense. Different world, different wardrobe, but the same instincts: ask good questions, pay attention to the details, and solve the problem in front of you.

In 2021, Julie founded Zendira in Austin, Texas, with a point of view that still guides the brand: a handbag designed for women who carry should be beautiful first, with thoughtful function built into the design.

Not a tactical bag trying to pass as fashion. A handbag worth carrying in its own right.

THE HIGHLIGHT REEL

A few hats.
Really good taste.

01 / FOUNDER

Built Zendira from an idea into a handbag brand.

From initial concept to product development, materials, fit, and the finer points of everyday use.

02 / BEFORE THE BAGS

Worked across the government-contracting world.

Experience supporting missions connected to State, DHS, Army, and DoD. Serious work. Serious attention to detail.

03 / ALSO AN AUTHOR

Wrote Conceal Reveal.

Her 2020 book about entrepreneurs and the defense industry briefly appeared on an Amazon Military Law bestseller list. Yes, she got the screenshot.

THE DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
Luxury before tactical.
Always.
02 / THE MAKING OF ZENDIRA

The details
are the point.

Julie works across Zendira's product development, from silhouettes and materials to customer experience and real-world fit questions. The brand's leather handbags are made in small batches with skilled artisans in León, Mexico.

She has helped develop styles including the Saturday crossbody, Monday laptop bag, Friday family, Origami, and Envelope, each with its own combination of design details and carry features.

She's also behind STRAPPED by Zendira, the more playful side of the family. Think less khaki, more fun, with the same refusal to settle for boring accessories.

For Julie, a beautiful finish and accurate product information belong in the same conversation. A good bag should look fantastic, and its details should stand up to questions.

03 / THE AUTHOR CHAPTER

Yes, she
wrote a book.

Conceal Reveal: The Space Between Entrepreneurs and the Defense Industry was published in 2020. It draws on Julie’s experience moving from government contracting into defense-industry entrepreneurship.

And yes, it briefly appeared on an Amazon bestseller list in Military Law. Long enough for a screenshot, which is really all the evidence the group chat required.

Different subject, same curiosity: learn the material, care about accuracy, and have something worth saying.

04 / WHY SHE'S HERE

A real person
behind the words.

As Zendira's founder, Julie contributes to the brand's point of view on handbag design, materials, functionality, product development, and the questions customers ask before choosing a bag.

Her perspective comes from building the products and working with the people who make and wear them. Product-specific fit information is reviewed against available specifications, rather than assuming every firearm and holster works with every design.

An important distinctionJulie is a handbag founder and author, not presented here as a firearms instructor or legal adviser. Zendira's educational articles are general information, not individualized firearms training or legal advice. Specialist topics should rely on qualified sources and applicable manufacturer guidance.
